Meet Karena Cason!
Karena has a strong background in mental health counseling, with over ten years of experience working to help people on their journey to better mental health.
She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a Bachelor’s Degree in African American Studies and a minor in Psychology. After graduating, Karena worked with AmeriCorps, Upward Bound, and multiple social service programs at the beginning of her career. She soon realized that an advanced degree would be necessary to better serve the community. So Karena returned to school and completed her Masters in Mental Health Counseling.
For the past twenty years, Karena has worked with individuals, groups, systems of care, children, and adults to help them on their mental health journey. For over 10 years, Karena worked with children with high needs. Karena later expanded her scope and worked with sex-trafficked teens, adults who have survived trauma, homeless veterans, entrepreneurs, domestic violence survivors, and the LGBTQ-IA community. In 2018, Karena Cason’s work in Southern Arizona was published in Psychiatry Online.
Karena says that her proudest accomplishments are not public, but the growth of each client in session. The parent that reconciles with their child. The entrepreneur that works through past trauma to reach current goals. The survivor that transitions from surviving to thriving. She would love to help you with the next step of your journey!
